Single-Phase Project Queues: 35 kV Service Voltage and 13 kV Service Voltage

Introduction:

CPS Energy is producing monthly lists of Single-Phase Projects requiring single phase transformers based on the current projects that are in construction and organized based where they are in queue for receiving their required transformers. For developers who have agreed to have their project information be available for distribution and for publishing on CPS Energy’s website, we are now providing the 13kV Single-Phase Project Queues and 35kV Single-Phase Project Queues below.  These queues provide the order in which we will be fulfilling transformers to these projects when they become available.

Our current forecasted transformer delivery outlook only extends a few months, making it difficult to predict future project energization dates.  We will update this list monthly to provide the most up to date information available.

CPS Energy has ordered transformers to cover all of the Single-Phase projects currently in-construction that have been deferred, plus a majority of those that have not yet been deferred. In addition to these active orders, our suppliers also have orders placed with manufacturers on our behalf going out through the current year and beyond to help minimize the impact of the constraints in transformer availability.

Partial Energization for Multi-transformer Developments:

The CPS Energy standard design to provide electrical service to new residential subdivision or multi-family projects is an “Underground Residential Distribution” loop, or URD loop. This loop design provides increased reliability to subdivision phases by providing two separate connections to the electric distribution lines feeding the subdivision, thus allowing certain repairs to be made without the need for an outage to the entire subdivision. The standard process for construction of a URD loop is to install all conduit, cable, transformers, and accessory equipment and energize the entire loop when all CPS Energy construction activities are complete.

CPS Energy recognizes that the current supply chain challenges associated with the shortage of single-phase transformers has delayed completion of new subdivision & multi-family development projects.

Therefore, CPS Energy has developed a Partial Energization program that offers developers with one or more projects in the Single-Phase Project Queue an option that may allow energization of part of a project when some, but not all transformers are available. Development customers who have more than one project on the list that use the same type of transformers may also be able to share transformers between projects, as long as it does not negatively affect other projects on the transformer queue. This option currently applies to projects in the queue and for transformers that have not been installed.

To qualify for Partial Energization, your project must meet certain qualifications and be approved by CPS Energy.  CPS Energy will also collect a cost-recovery fee from the customer with a qualifying projects to cover remobilization and related costs.  For additional information on the Partial Energization process, please see the Request Form .  To begin the process, please email the completed form to [email protected].
