Convenient EV Charging Solutions

Electric vehicles (EV) are convenient because you can charge at home and when you are out and about.  It takes about 20 seconds to perform your part of charging – 10 seconds to plug in, and 10 seconds to unplug your EV.  In between, you are free to do something else, like sleep, shop, or work.  For EV drivers without home charging equipment, CPS Energy offers an EV Public Charging program that helps to eliminate range anxiety often associated with Electric Vehicle ownership.

Charging at Home

The majority of EV drivers charge at home about 80% of the time. Charging your EV at home means you can leave with a “full tank” every morning.

Different levels of charging are achieved with different equipment and result in different charging speeds. If you'd like to learn about EV charging, read this informative charging guide from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). When setting up charging at your home, contact a licensed electrician to verify that your breaker is sufficient and to install the charging equipment you choose to use at home.

When you charge is important too. EVs are important to reduce carbon emissions from transportation but EV charging changes how and when energy is consumed. Our community’s demand for energy is at its highest and usually peaks between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays. So, it’s better to charge your EV during off-peak times when the energy demand is lower, especially as the number of people driving and charging EVs increases.

CPS Energy is helping EV owners develop good charging habits by introducing two FlexEVSM Rewards programs to provide EV owners financial incentives for charging when the energy demand is lower, outside of peak demand hours.  The FlexEV Smart Rewards and FlexEV Off-Peak Rewards programs are available for EV owners with qualifying chargers to choose from.  Choose one of the programs and enroll one time.

Sign up for FlexEV Smart Rewards and receive a $250 credit on your utility bill for allowing CPS Energy to make remote adjustments to your eligible level 2 WiFi charger. Adjustments can occur between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday-Friday when the energy demand is high.

  • Earn $250 for signing up and agreeing to CPS Energy making brief adjustments to your eligible level 2 charger’s energy use during periods of increased electric demand*.
  • Earn $5 each month you remain enrolled.
  • Adjustment events can occur on weekdays between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., up to a maximum of 15 events per month. You will be notified in advance of an event via your charger’s app.

Sign up for FlexEV Off-Peak Rewards and earn a $125 credit on your utility bill for agreeing to charge during off-peak hours. Plus, if you limit your charging to no more than twice monthly during peak hours, you’ll earn a $10 credit for the month.

  • Earn $125 for choosing to charge outside of peak hours and sharing your elibilbe charger’s usage data with CPS Energy*.
  • Earn $10 each month if you do not charge more than two times during on-peak hours.
  • On-peak hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. and excluding Holidays.

Charging Around Town

We have more than 43 local charging ports in our FlexEVSM Public Charging program’s ChargePoint® Network1.  With our public charging program’s low annual fee of $96, you get unlimited access to our charging stations at any time of day or night.  If you don’t subscribe to the FlexEVSM Public Charging Program, you can still use the charging stations on a 'Pay As You Go' basis2.

Topping off your battery reduces the chance of range anxiety and the fear of running out of battery charge before you reach your destination.  If you do not own a home EV Charger and need to charge your EV more than 3 times in an average month, then the FlexEV Public Charging Program is a good fit for you.
